The "SFA for planners" guide was created to support
SFA Subject Matter Experts within the planning process of the Comprehensive
Operation Planning Directive (COPD) at operational level. Following the
"six steps process", it aims to provide specific indications on how
to give an effective contribution to the Joint Operational Planning Group
(JOPG) step by step from a SFA perspective, in terms of products needed to
accomplish the process. This document does not introduce a new standalone
procedure for planning but must be considered strictly underpinned with all the
existing NATO planning and assessment standing doctrines such as the COPD,
AJP-5 and NATO Operation Assessment Handbook.

The NATO SFA COE will offer different training solutions for
2023, both residential and online.
These solutions are (or are going to be) certified as “NATO
Selected” courses, that satisfy NATO performance gaps identified within the
Military Contribution to Peace Support NATO Discipline through the System
Approach to Training process and represent suitable training solutions aligned
with the performance gaps.
A specific calling letter for each iteration will be
published on the NATO SFA COE website at least two months before each course
commences.
