NATO SFA COE lectured at the “New Peace Operations as a stabilizing factor for the European Union” course
A NATO SFA COE Subject Matter Expert
lectured during the course “New Peace Operations as a stabilizing factor for
the European Union”, that was held from the 13th to the 17th of March
2023, in Rome, at the Italian Centre for Higher Defence Studies.
The course was aimed at allowing participants to effectively
take positions on peace support operations policies and strategies at the
senior staff level. All the participants were acquainted with historical,
diplomatic, institutional, legal, humanitarian and operational issues related
to peace operations. The course also focused on the EU’s involvement with other
actors, with a special regard to UN and NATO policies.
The lecture was followed by a Q/A panel pointing out the
importance of the Comprehensive Approach – the collaboration and coordination
with other international and local stakeholders - when delivering developmental
activities to a Host Nation.
This event also highlighted the importance of the cooperation
with European International organizations such as the European Security and
Defence College (ESDC), and the role of SFA in NATO stabilization missions and
its effectiveness while integrating with EU common ends.
