Launch of the “Religion, Peace, and Security: Challenges and Prospects in the MENA Region” study paper
NATO Security Force Assistance - Centre of Excellence (NATO
SFA COE), in partnership with the Religion and Security Council (RSC), invites
you to join the online launch of the study paper “Religion, Peace, and
Security: Challenges and Prospects in the MENA Region”, which will take place
on October 9, from 14:00 to 16:00 CET.
The volume collects the proceedings of the Study Seminar held
in Rome on 5-6 May 2022, and has been edited by RSC Chairman Emiliano Stornelli
and Dr. Sihem Djebbi, Associate Professor at the University of Sorbonne Paris
Nord and the Pontifical Faculty of Theology of Southern Italy, who were also
the scientific coordinators of the event.
The Study Seminar gathered an international group of
scholars, experts, religious leaders, military officers, and civilian
representatives, with the goal of examining the potentialities of the
“religious factor” in the Mediterranean and the Middle East as a “driver” of
peace and security.
During the event, experiences, analyses, and recommendations
were shared to better understand and enhance the role of religion in crisis
management, conflict resolution, peace-building, and post-conflict
stabilization. In particular, three main domains were examined: interreligious
dialogue; countering radicalization and violent extremism; and fostering
reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.
In addition to RSC Chairman Emiliano Stornelli and Dr. Sihem
Djebbi, the launch of the study paper will feature NATO SFA COE Director, Col.
Massimo Di Pietro, and the keynote speakers of the Study Seminar, who authored
