NATO SFA COE participated in the 2020 virtual BI ADC
The
NATO SFA COE Legad and the E&T Branch participated in the 2020 virtual
Building Integrity Annual Discipline Conference organized by the Centre for the
Integrity in the Defence Sector (CIDS) and the International Staff (IS) on the
14th of October.
The Conference started with the address of Dr. Gerlinde Niehus, NATO’s Defence
Institution and Capacity Building Deputy Director, who welcomed the
participants and thanked everyone for taking the time to attend the online
conference, since conditions continue to prevent in-person
meetings. (Dr. Gerlinde Niehus welcome address

The
event, which gathered 44 experts from the NATO Command Structure, the NATO
Force Structure and other International Organizations, gave the organizers the
opportunity to illustrate the BI Policy Developments and the support received
from the Partners, as well as the strong and trusted network created.
“Good governance and Building Integrity in the defence and security sector” and
the “BI in Operation Handbook” were illustrated as milestones of the BI
program.
A summary of courses divided into the various NATO Disciplines and included in
the NATO ETOC (Education and Training Opportunity Catalogue) was provided. In
this regard, the NATO SFA COE is giving its support to design the table of
contents of the new NATO Advisory Course, which is included under the BI
discipline and addressed to ministerial/institution’s advisors in support
of NATO deployed training and capacity building activities. Furthermore, NATO
SFA COE is creating some useful publications for the course attendees; they
will be focused on important topics such as the respect of the Rule of Law and
Good Governance in crisis zone and offering best practises and tools for advisors.
NATO SFA COE’s SMEs emphasised the importance of BI in SFA activities and how
the signature of the Memorandum of Cooperation by the COE with the Defence
Institution and Capacity Building (DICB) Directorate in 2019 gave impetus
to the NATOSFACOE/DICB cooperation, recognizing further potential synergies in
their respective working areas.
